Everything You Need to Know

Planning your stay at Awhitu Zen? Here are answers to the questions we get asked most often. If something isn't covered here, Barbara and Stanley are always happy to help. Just reach out through Airbnb or Bookabach.

Check-in is from 2:00 PM and check-out is by 11:00 AM. Self check-in is available. Full arrival instructions including the entry code are sent after booking confirmation. If you need an early check-in or late check-out, just ask Barbara and Stanley and they'll do their best to accommodate.

Approximately 90 minutes from Auckland CBD by car, via Karaka or Drury, then through the peaceful town of Waiuku and along the Awhitu Peninsula. The exact address is 202B Big Bay Road, Awhitu. Full directions are provided after booking, and the drive itself is scenic and enjoyable.

Yes on both counts. The hot tub is completely private. It's within the property and not shared with anyone. Barbara and Stanley fill it with fresh water for every single stay, so you always arrive to a clean, freshly prepared tub. On a clear day you can see the Auckland Sky Tower across the Manukau Harbour from the tub.

Yes. The property sits within a small coastal subdivision with a pedestrian right of way leading directly to a private beach on the Manukau Harbour. There are also 6+ additional beaches within easy driving distance, ranging from calm harbour swimming to wild West Coast surf.

Unfortunately no, pets are not permitted at Awhitu Zen. This is to protect the Balinese gardens and ensure the property remains in top condition for all guests.

Yes, there is off-street parking on site. You will not need to park on the road.

Yes, high-speed WiFi is included. The property also has a Smart TV with streaming apps. That said, Awhitu Zen is best enjoyed by switching off. The night sky from the hot tub is something the internet simply cannot compete with.

The kitchen is fully equipped: oven, stovetop, microwave, coffee maker, fridge and freezer, full crockery, cutlery, and cookware. There is also an outdoor gas BBQ and an open fire cooking area, plus a herb garden stocked with fresh culinary herbs. Three cooking areas in total: kitchen, BBQ, and fire.

We recommend filling up with fuel in Waiuku before heading out to the Peninsula. There is also a fuel stop at Matakawau, about 10 minutes away. Bhanas, the local store, is a 10-minute drive and perfect for anything you've forgotten. They serve takeaways Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights from 4:30 PM.

Book through Airbnb (instant confirmation available) or through Bookabach / VRBO. Both listings are managed directly by Superhosts Barbara and Stanley. See the Book page for direct links to both platforms.

Smoking and vaping are not permitted inside the house. Outdoor smoking is welcome.

The Awhitu Peninsula has six stunning beaches, the Awhitu Regional Park with walking tracks and a historic lighthouse, the Awhitu Golf Club (open to casual players), Awhitu Wines for an afternoon tasting, Wattle Bay blueberry picking in season, and professional massage available through Blue Butterfly. See the Local Area page for the full guide.
